What Are the Do's and Don’ts While Working With a Hydraulic Breaker?

Updated: Aug 25, 2022

Power tools enhance the operation at a construction job site. Backhoes, stationary booms, cranes, forklifts, and excavator rock breaker is designed to serve multiple operations. But the efficiency and safety of using this equipment come down to only one factor how you equip the machines.

A hydraulic excavator rock breaker is a crucial tool for the demolition of rock and concrete and enhances the earth moving production in any construction site. As with all attachments and skids, there are multiple do's and don’ts. In this blog, we can look at the some do's and don'ts that an operator must be aware of before using one.

Do's

Daily Inspection of Hydraulic Breaker

An operator must be knowledgeable about all the components of the equipment and know how to inspect the breakers. When inspecting visually, they must know what to look for. Before using the tool, check its flow and pressure.

Lubrication of the Breaker

Lubrication prevents wear-out of the tool or hairline damage caused by friction. Lubricating the breaker prevents untoward damage to tool bushing.

Inspection Before and After Operating

The breaker must be inspected well before and after operating. It helps the operator to ensure the breaker is in the right working condition. The worn-out components must be addressed, and before using the operator would lube and grease the components of the breaker.

Apart from that, during the operation of the hydraulic breaker, the operator should follow the process and instructions cautiously. The area inspector and operator consult the OEM for user manual and correct operation.

Don'ts

Don't Blank Fire

Blank firing should not be done when no object or material is present to accept the force. When the piston fires in the tool shank, the air is not able to absorb all the energy. The shock pressures back up the tool and crashes. It can lead to damage to the shank tool.

Don't Hammer at One Spot for More Than 15 Seconds

While using a hydraulic rock breaker attachment, repositioning the tool is compulsory every 15-20 seconds. If you see the breaker is not through the material which needs to be demolished, then keep the breaker perpendicular. Keep it perpendicular over the rock and then apply steady downward pressure from a skid steer or excavator to reduce recoil.

Don't Start with the Middle

If you are using a rock breaker for crushing huge rocks, then never start from the middle. This is known as the "sword the stone" technique in which when you try to put breakout force on the middle it leads to stressing the breaker and overheating of the demolition tool. It is advisable to start with the edges and then move along to the middle of the rock.

Conclusion

The dos and don’ts will help you easily navigate in the space and find and operate efficiently in any situation. The rapid industrialization and revolution of the 20th century brought hydraulic attachments to the fore of better infrastructure. There is numerous excavator rock breaker manufacturer, which you can buy or rent at cost-efficient breaker machine price.
